The last time you lived in a sterile environment was while you were in your mother’s womb, in the incubator.

  • There was no contact with the outside world.
  • Your food was predigested, and your oxygen was pre-breathed.
  • Everything was filtered by your mother’s body before it reaches you.
  • You were virtually untouchable.
  • And you were 100% made up of human cells.

This all changed when you began to travel down the birth canal.

In the birth canal, you were met by an army of protective bacteria that produce acids that drive away all other bacteria.

They kept the way clean so to speak.

During birth, you were exposed to all sorts of skin contact, and this combined with your mum’s gut flora created a very good mixture to start your own Microbiome with.

The acid bacteria protected you from harmful bacteria while the rest trained your immune system to be ready for the world.

By the time you had your first mouthful of your mother’s milk, your freshly created colony of beneficial bacteria was ready to break down the food for you.

This process only takes 20 minutes from woe to go!

The next step takes a lot longer.

It will take around 3 years for the bacterial pecking order in the infant’s tummy to establish some sort of stability.

Without good care, it can take months, if not years for the young digestive system to mature and become robust.

Breastfed babies and children are some of the luckier ones, but even in this situation, it’s not always plain sailing.

Breastmilk promotes Bifidobacteria and if these colonize the gut early, it will often create a strong immune system for the child.

Children with insufficient Bifidobacteria in their gut in the first year have an increased risk of obesity in later life, compared with infants who had large populations of Bifidobacteria.

Breastfeeding can also reduce the risk of later gluten intolerance.

Apparently, breastmilk is as perfect as it gets when it comes to nutrients for the child.

It contains everything, knows everything, and can do everything for a child’s well-being.

Of course, breastfeeding isn’t always an option, so in the video above, Pete and I share some of our experiences of feeding solutions that work for parents, babies, and young children.

More than a third of all children born in western industrialized countries are born by Caesarian Section.

They miss out on all the beneficial bacteria from the birth canal and have to glean their flora from wherever they can.

These bacteria are not suitable to colonize the baby’s tummy.

It can take children born by CS take months, if not years, to develop a healthy Microbiome.

They have an increased risk of asthma, allergies, and other debilitating health challenges.

Poor nutrition, unnecessary use of antibiotics, excessive cleanliness, and too much exposure to bad bacteria are other factors that create stress on our Microbiome.

Our Microbiome consists of 38 trillion bacteria and viruses.

Yes, the latest research indicates that we are largely made up of viruses as well.

While you were in your mum’s womb, you were 100% made up of human cells, but shortly after, you have turned into a walking island of bacteria and viruses, to the point where your body consists of 10% human cells and 90% bacterial cells.

The only way to stay healthy is to make sure your bacterial cells are the right ones.

They need to be beneficial and take good care of you and your immune system.

So if your baby missed out on a good start to life, or has colic, gas, is unsettled, cries a lot, or has trouble digesting foods, book your child in for a healing session to restore harmony to the digestive system.
