Do you remember the story about our chooks?
Last week, one of them died.
Our three chickens had been together through storms and sunshine, seasons of plenty and seasons of struggle.
Always side by side, aware of each other in a way that is almost impossible to explain unless you have truly observed animals closely.
Overnight, one of them became very ill.
She lay on the ground, completely flat, barely breathing, somewhere between life and death…
For days, she didn’t move.
What struck me most was how her girlfriends behaved.
They stayed close by her side.
Not hovering in panic, not trying to fix her, not being dramatic.
They were simply present, aware, and connected …
In a way that felt like they were communicating beyond words, almost as if they were ESP’ing each other the entire time.
As if there was a silent agreement: “We are here with you; while you are here.”
It felt incredibly pure.
- Unconditional love in action.
- Unbroken connection.
- Presence without agenda.
And it went on for days.
I realised, this is exactly what humans need more of.
Not more solutions, well-meaning advice or “being looked after.”
We need to feel…
- Seen.
- Held.
- Connected.
- Accepted for who we are, at any stage of our lives.
But humans, more often than not, do the opposite.
We take our sick, our frail, our struggling and we move them away from life.
Into hospitals, rooms or systems.
Where they are “looked after”; but not truly held in a way that is felt by the heart.
At first, there is care.
There are visits.
Messages.
Concern.
But then … Life resumes.
And slowly, quietly, almost imperceptibly our connections fade.
And what remains is something much harder to speak about.
- Absence.
- Distance.
- Silence.
I know this; because, I have lived it.
After the truck accident, there were 7 years where my body would break down again and again.
Many times, I was right on the edge of death.
At first, there was presence.
Friends and family showed up.
Sometimes my children were there (but I tried not to burden them with my suffering)
Pete was there (but he was preoccupied with keeping the home fires burning and the business ticking over)
There was love.
But over time; fewer and fewer people came.
Not because they didn’t care; but, because humans have limits.
They cannot sustain that level of presence without being resourced themselves.
And so they return to life.
And this is where I began to understand something deeper.
Life has lanes.
There is the fast lane.
Where most people live.
- Pushing and performing.
- Keeping everything together.
- Meeting deadlines and paying bills.
- Showing up for life, working hard for a holiday or adventure.
Then there is the slow lane.
Where people drop into when they can no longer sustain the fast lane.
They are still functioning, but everything feels heavier.
- They are coping.
- Managing.
- Getting through.
This lane is less popular.
And then,
There is the breakdown lane.
Nobody wants to spend time here.
This is the lane I came to know intimately.
Over those 7 years, if I added it all up, I spent about 24 weeks lying in hospital beds.
- Flat on my back.
- No momentum.
- No control.
- No ability to push through.
The breakdown lane is not where you choose to go.
It is where your body places you, when it can no longer carry the life you have been living.
And here is what I learned there.
- You cannot outrun your body.
- You cannot perform your way to peace.
- You can’t outsmart your suffering in this lane.
I discovered that when everything falls away, nobody is coming to save you.
You are left with yourself.
But this is not the end of the story: this is a doorway!
During these difficult times, I realized I had a source within, a current, a steady, quiet presence that does not depend on anyone else showing up.
Call it:
Love … for no reason.
Joy … for no reason.
Aliveness … for no reason.
But here is what I also know now … We are not meant to do this alone.
Yes, we must come home to ourselves.
But we are also designed for connection.
Real connection.
Real unconditional connection.
The kind my chooks showed me.
It comes naturally to chooks, but most humans have never experienced this, so they don’t even realize they are missing out.
They just feel an unnamed sadness, hollowness, or restlessness.
- They stay busy.
- Coping.
- Performing.
- Striving.
Moving between the fast lane and the slow lane; until life eventually forces them into the breakdown lane.
But there is another way.
I learned to stay in my lane.
Not the fast lane.
Not the breakdown lane.
But a deeply anchored lane within myself where I can meet life as it comes without losing who I am.
And from that place, you can rebuild what has been lost.
Not artificially through surface-level connection.

But through a living, breathing community, what I call community medicine.
This is the healing model of the future.
Where you are not just “treated,” but held, seen, felt and met.
- Where you learn … and receive.
- Where you give … and are given to.
- Where connection is natural, not forced.
And this is exactly what we create inside Sole to Soul.
- The last weekend of May
- At the Purple House Estate
This is not just a training; this is a living, thriving field of connection.
A place where:
- You are upheld, not overlooked
- You are supported, not left to cope
- You experience deep, hands-on healing
- You learn powerful skills that reconnect you to Life Force itself, you are sourcing the Force, not forcing the Source.
Over these 3 days … something shifts in your baseline.
A factory reset, a new reference point for:
- Happiness.
- Health.
- Wealth.
- Connection.
Friendships are forged.
Walls come down.
The body softens.
And something that has been missing finally returns home into your nervous system.
And you don’t just experience it.
You learn how to create it.
- For yourself, your family and your community.
- For your family.
- For your clients.
