There have been some winners in this current lockdown crisis…. and I am not just talking about Bill Gates or Zuckerburg here..
I am talking about hand sanitizer companies!
Hand sanitizer pumps are everywhere, on the way into a shop or business and again on the way out.
It may be killing the dreaded C- virus but you also have to ask yourself what else is it killing?
We often say to our clients to ask themselves “Whatever I put on my skin, would I eat or drink it?”
Our skin or integumentary system is our largest organ or system. Whatever you place on your skin goes in, just like a big mouth.
So would you slurp up those delicious hand sanitizing solutions?
If you wouldn’t because of the fear that they may poison you.. well STOP!! Because that is probably what they are doing.
Wash your hands with plain old soap and water.
Some of the ingredients in the sanitizer are probably toxic.
What is maybe worse are the words “antibacterial”/ “antimicrobial”.
Do you know one of the best ways to build up your baby’s immune system?
Let them play in the dirt!
Yes apparently there are more beneficial microbes for our gut, which houses 80% of our immune system, in the soil than in fermented foods.
So leave a bit of dirt on your carrots when you go nibble, nibble, crunch, crunch…..yum.
If there are other nasties such as worms or parasites then these should be taken care of by the hydrochloric acid in your stomach.
Studies suggest that after the age of 30 years this does decrease leaving us open to weakened digestion and maybe infestations of parasites.

I tried looking up some statistics about probiotic use but could only find figures from 2012!
Hopefully they have changed a bit in the last 8 years.
In 2012 a National Health Survey showed that in a 30 day period 1.6% of adult Americans used probiotics or prebiotics.
As I say I hope if they did another survey it would be dramatically improved. But maybe it isn’t?
When was the last time you had probiotics or fermented foods? Or a big mouthful of healthy dirt? LOL!
We need to be replenishing them every day even when we are healthy.
As I was reading I came across a study on Anti-depressive Mechanisms of Probiotics and Their Therapeutic Potential.
The study noted “the gut microbiota actively engages with the proper development and functioning of both the immune system and brain.”
It goes on to say “however, the diversity and richness of the gut microbiota are susceptible to change based on the host’s lifestyle.”
We all know or should be aware that there is a massive gut-brain connection and…
If you insist on squirting sanitizer each time you enter and leave, remember to have a good probiotic EVERY day or a healthy helping of fermented food with your dinner.
Fermented Olive Leaf Extract is an excellent immune booster for the respiratory system, especially during the winter.
