We have a platypus living in our dam at the Purple House.

A real one.

Wild, shy, mysterious, and entirely his own creature.

I smile every time I think about him, because the platypus is one of those rare creations that makes you wonder what happened in the Creator’s workshop that day.

Late on a Friday afternoon in the Universe, looking over the leftover pieces on the bench.

  • A duck’s bill.
  • A beaver’s tail.
  • Webbed feet.
  • A furry coat.
  • The ability to lay eggs.
  • The ability to produce milk.
  • A little venomous spur on the males, just to keep things interesting.

Somehow, it became a masterpiece.

Every part fits to make a perfect platypus.

He never looked at the duck and thought, I should become more like you.

He never looked at the beaver and thought, my tail is a little strange.

He simply became what he was designed to become, a creature unlike anything else in the Universe, with its own intelligence and its own way of moving through the world.

A creature that reminds us that different does not mean defective.

We have a beautiful accommodation here called Platypus Pond, named because underneath the peaceful surface of that water lives this incredible little animal.

Guests arrive at Platypus Pond chirpy and certain.

We can’t wait to see him.

We’re going to get him on video.

And they do.

Almost every time, they do.

Pete and I just smile and say nothing.

Because here is the truth we’ve learned to keep to ourselves.

We live here.

We feed the ducks a stone’s throw from that dam every single morning.

And we hardly ever see him.

I’ve thought a lot about why that is, and I don’t think it’s coincidence.

Our guests arrive expecting the magic.

They have no history with this dam to tell them otherwise, so they simply believe he will show up, and he does.

We, on the other hand, have years of quiet, empty water behind us.

We stopped expecting him a long time ago.

So mostly, we don’t see him.

We’ve trained ourselves into it, the same way you can train a body to expect pain, or expect to be unheard, or expect nothing good to arrive on time.

What you’ve come to expect has a way of becoming what you experience.

I think about this in the clinic constantly, because the body has its own version of that platypus, sensing in the dark what the conscious mind cannot see.

Long before you feel a symptom, something in you has already noticed the imbalance and started working to correct it.

  • You do not teach your body how to heal a cut.
  • You do not teach your heart how to beat while you sleep.
  • You do not teach your immune system how to recognise and respond to something that does not belong.

That intelligence was already there.

Your body arrived knowing how to live.

It arrived as a masterpiece.

But sometimes, through life experiences, stress, trauma, illness, disappointment, or simply years of ignoring the messages our body sends us, we lose the relationship with that intelligence.

The body adapts to what it experiences.

It learns what to expect.

It learns where to stay alert.

It learns how to protect us, and sometimes the very patterns that once helped us survive continue long after the danger has passed, because the body is still trying to protect us, long after the threat is gone.

Healing begins when we start rebuilding the relationship with our own inner wisdom.

When we stop seeing the body as something that is failing us and begin remembering that it has been working for us all along.

Which brings me to my grandson.

Now, my grandson is not exactly someone you would expect to be frightened of a small aquatic creature.

He is eighteen years old, nearly two metres tall, and around ninety kilos, strong, capable and confident.

The kind of young man who could probably carry a fridge up a hill and wonder why everyone else was struggling.

And yet our platypus dam has earned his respect.

I have tried explaining that our platypus is probably not sitting under the water thinking, excellent, an eighteen year old human has arrived, today is the day.

The reality is that the platypus is most likely far more interested in finding his dinner and avoiding all the splashing.

But technically, my grandson is not completely wrong.

Male platypuses do have venomous spurs.

So somewhere in his very intelligent human brain, his ancient survival system has said, unknown creature, dark water, possible threat, stay alert.

Sometimes the things we fear are not actually as dangerous as our minds imagine.

Sometimes the unknown becomes larger than the reality, simply because we cannot see it clearly.

And that is true of our own inner world too.

There are things swimming beneath the surface of our subconscious, old memories, beliefs, fears, patterns, generational traumas.

Healing is not about attacking those things or forcing them away.

It is about becoming curious enough to gently shine a light into the water and discover what is actually there.

Because often what we find is not a monster, but a part of ourselves that has been trying to protect us or defend us against danger, a helpful part we pushed away years ago.

So this is what our platypus continues to teach me.

Expect good things, and allow the Universe to surprise and delight you.

Trust that the intelligence within you knows more than you realise.

And remember, you too are a masterpiece, because every part of you belongs exactly where it is.

You are not a masterpiece because you have figured everything out, never have a bad day, or always live up to everyone’s expectations.

You are a masterpiece because it took billions of years of evolution, countless generations, and an almost unimaginable series of events to bring you into existence.

Every cell in your body belongs.

Every breath you take is evidence that life knows what it is doing.

The same intelligence that shaped the stars, the rivers, the trees, and the tiny platypus in our dam, is moving through you right now.

The odds of you existing at all are astonishingly small.

A commonly quoted calculation from mathematicians and astronomers puts the chance of you being born as the exact person you are at around one in four hundred trillion, factoring in the probability of your specific parents meeting and the exact combination that created you.

Some estimates go far higher again, depending on how many generations back you calculate.

And even those numbers probably underestimate the miracle, because they cannot fully capture the whole chain.

Your ancestors surviving long enough to reproduce.

Generations of people meeting the right partners at the right moment.

Your parents meeting at all.

One particular cell out of hundreds of millions succeeding.

You being born into this exact moment in history.

The Universe is very proud of you, and it is here to support you in every way.

It is benevolent, and it is enjoying your adventures as much as you are.

So if you feel like a fish out of water, if you find yourself bracing against life, doubting your intuition, sensing that something is wrong beneath the surface of your conscious mind, or feeling like your body has become your enemy rather than your ally, you are not alone.

Many of our clients arrive at the Purple House carrying the same feeling my grandson has standing beside that dam.

Some have spent years searching for answers, trying harder, pushing more, overriding their own signals, and wondering why their body will not simply cooperate.

But your body has never been your enemy.

It has been communicating with you, protecting you, and carrying your wisdom the whole time.

At the Purple House, we do not chase the platypus.

And we do not chase symptoms either.

We slow down, we listen, we look beneath the surface, and we help you reconnect with the most intelligent healer you will ever meet, your own body.

Your own inner platypus has been quietly waiting beneath the surface too.

Book your Diagnostic Session here with Pete, Caleb or Grada, and allow yourself to receive the answers, the help and the clarity you have been waiting for.
