Probiotics make you slim?

Its official: the latest research shows that there is a direct link between the growing obesity epidemic and unhealthy gut bacteria due to the overuse of antibiotics. Since 1950 antibiotics have been given to livestock to control infections.

At first farmers were just happy with the fact that antibiotics kept their livestock alive, which meant money in the bank, but then they noticed something strange:

Not only did the antibiotics help clear up infections and diseases that previously would have spelled disaster, their animals got fatter faster as well!

It’s easy to figure out how antibiotics became the wonder drug of the 20th century (along with DDT, fertilizers, pesticides and artificial hormones). Cows, pigs, sheep, chicken and farmed fish have been pumped full of antibiotics ever since. Now scientists believe that antibiotic overuse is not only making livestock fatter, it is making us fatter too!

“If you want to help your son lose weight, start by healing his gut,”

I am telling my client who is sitting patiently in my room while I explain the basic foundation of health. Her young boy’s weight ballooned ‘for no reason’ after he turned 9 and I could tell why his parents were concerned. He easily looks 10 kilos overweight and he isn’t all that tall. “It wasn’t that he was overly hungry or ate too much rubbish either,” his mum said. In fact there hadn’t been any earth shattering changes in his life to trigger such weight gain.

We study his live and dried blood and as the final droplet on the slide comes into view we can see the reason for his obesity: Leaky Gut!

The darkness in the middle of the blood sample indicates stresses from toxins, Candida, and possibly parasites which are all associated with a wounded gut.

On further questioning my client remembered that her son had been prescribed a series of antibiotics for chronic ear infections about 18 months ago. I asked her if she had done anything to protect and boost his good bacteria once he finished his courses of antibiotics and she shook her head. She hadn’t been told.

“That’s right; nobody gets the warning that with every antibiotic you swallow, your entire ecosystem of healthy bacteria is destroyed, including key species of good bacteria that keep you lean! In fact studies have shown that the numbers of good bacteria are higher in children who are slim than in those who are overweight.”

“There is a definite link between gut health/gut bacteria and obesity,” I add, and the good news is that now we know the root cause, we can fix it. I tell her about Immunosynbiotic, which contains multiple strains of pre and probiotics, and that he needs to swallow at least one with each meal.

The very best thing would be for her to introduce fermented foods or drinks to every meal so the whole family benefits. Antibiotics are everywhere, they are even in non-organic milk, cream and butter so I encourage her to shop wisely. It is easy to see how one course of antibiotics, on top of all the other hidden antibiotics in our foods and drinks could automatically tip the scales in favour of the bad bacteria, parasites and fungi that take up residence in our tummies once our army of friendly bacteria has been exterminated.

Our intestinal wall is only as thick as our eyelid.

Stresses from bad bugs irritate the bowel wall and before we know it our gut has become too permeable.

Toxins, pollutants and undigested food stuffs flow unimpeded into the blood stream with disastrous results.

“Fermented foods and drinks as well as good quality supplements like Probiotics for kids will go after the bugs. They will give his severely depleted immune system a phenomenal boost. If you really want to upgrade his health, give him a mouthful of kimchi or sauerkraut with his breakfast or tea. Any meal you add a portion of fermented foods to is a huge improvement!”
I give her the recipe for kefir, a delicious probiotic drink that can be made from milk or coconut milk and cross my fingers and toes that she fully understands the impact his destroyed inner ecosystems has on his weight.

Weight gain and stubborn fat around the waist are more and more common. Each day of obesity your body becomes more burdened. Eventually you may encounter problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, fatty liver and heart disease. While obesity is a complex issue, Leaky gut is often the root cause of ‘metabolic syndrome’. In Australia, it is estimated that one in three people over the age of 25 years have the metabolic syndrome.

There are 7 ways that gut health influences weight:

  1. Metabolism: Gut bacteria harvest energy and can provide 5 to 10% of daily calories.
  2. Hormonal Balance: Lots of hormones are released in the gut, like the ones that make us feel satisfied and keep our blood sugars steady. Gut bacteria are in charge of these hormones.
  3. Sick gut bacteria release toxins that trigger inflammation throughout your entire system. High levels of bacterial toxins have been found in people with type two diabetes and obesity, without a change in diet.
  4. Leaky gut or inflamed gut: When the gut barrier is leaky, bacterial toxins make their way into the blood stream.
  5. Toxic liver: Leaky gut due to bad bacteria causes a steady release of toxins and pollutants into the blood stream, making the liver work extra hard. When our liver is burdened our metabolism slows down and the kilos keep on creeping up.
  6. For millions of people, obesity is a form of malnutrition because nutrients aren’t absorbed due to wounded gut. Without nutrients reaching the cells, diseases creep in. When the cells become ill, so do we. When the body goes into starvation mode it saves everything it can, which includes fats, toxins and poisons found in chemically laced foods. Solve this problem by introducing the right bacteria into the gut from fermented or probiotic foods.
  7. Lack of enzymes from lack of good bacteria: As we age, our enzyme levels drop. Good bacteria can provide our bodies with over 400 enzymes that are needed to break down foods fast and efficiently.

Plan of action: LOSE WEIGHT WITH PROBIOTICS.

You can support long term weight loss by supplementing with Immuno-synbiotic, Bioraculous or fermented probiotics every day. These can be purchased at the clinic or online at https://www.purplehousenaturaltherapies.com.au/product-category/probiotic/

A Biomedx/Complete Health analysis will find exactly what your condition is and how it started. It includes around 26 chemical tests on your urine (which is filtered blood) and saliva (which reflects your lymph system). It includes checking your resting and standing blood pressures, your blood sugar levels and many other clinical tests. The truth is: no two people are biological identical. A vitamin supplement that gives your partner a big boost may leave you tired and lethargic for days. So what is the answer?

The answer is in checking all five fundamental control systems that most people (including other health professionals) have never heard of. These systems are the engines that drive your body and mind. When these engines are working efficiently you move through life with ease and energy. When only one of these control systems is out, it causes hundreds and hundreds adverse reactions in the body, causing you pain and suffering.  The beauty of Biomedx is that now we are able to find the root cause and reverse the process of disease. Taking charge of your own health includes understanding as much as possible about the way your body functions or malfunctions. Most degenerative reactions (like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, arthritis) have given clues in the blood chemistry long before medical doctors diagnose them. The cost of a Biomedx session is $395.

Unless you are very healthy there will initially be another $250 to spend on supplements. Instead of the “hit and miss” approach you will only be taking supplements you specifically need for your condition.

A live and dried blood analysis on its own is $145 but is often included in our combination consult! All our therapies, including massage, kinergetics, allergy testing, Bowen, reflexology, cranio-sacral and cupping are explained on www.purplehousenaturaltherapies.com.au or talk to our friendly receptionist on 64283007 to discuss your needs.

We are open Monday through Friday.

Things to remember from this article:

If you think fermented foods for weight loss is too much like hard work, think again. You only need 1 spoon of fermented foods with each meal to start feeling better. Each spoonful contains not millions, but trillions of good bacteria.

Another word for good bacteria is pro-biotics. Pro-biotics are life giving and anti-biotics are life destroying. Antibiotics should be limited to life threatening situations and should be avoided in our food supply.

Organic vegetables are the preferred choice for the basis of fermented foods, but the good news is that the good bacteria that are employed during the process of fermentation gobble up the harmful pesticides so you end up with a product that is 100% life enhancing.
