“As you can see from my picture on the wall, the feet are a perfect mini-map of the whole body. We have 7000 reflex points/nerve endings on each foot, corresponding to every part of your being.” I am doing my usual spiel on the benefits of reflexology while my hands are busy working the points on my clients left foot.
“All the organs, glands and body parts represented in the foot are laid out in the same way in the body. Even the inside curve of the foot corresponds to the natural curves of the spine as you can see.” I am showing my client’s wife the curve on the foot. She leans over to have a closer look.
I am about to tell her that the big toe represents the head when my clients lets out a blood curdling scream that freezes us in midair! By the time all three of us recover I have worked out what just happened: my client had suffered a mild stroke 6 weeks earlier and when I innocently started to work the top of his big toe the reflex points were so tender that it felt to him as if I was poking him with shards of glass. Now all my clients know that I work very gently when I do the reflex points. In fact some clients insist that I hurt them a bit more. The reason I work so gently is because I can feel exactly what my clients’ bodies are up to and where there energy is blocked so I know I don’t have to hurt to get results. I had barely touched my client’s brain reflex points when he started to scream.
I laughingly reassured my client that this was an excellent sign! The soreness in his big toe was an indication that his brain required more healing and what better way to stimulate healing than by working the sore points! I worked around the offending brain reflex first to create a state of deeper relaxation and with the help of essential oils and gentle pressure I continued to work on his recovery through reflexology. I am glad to say that it worked and he became one of my regular clients. (It is very important to have a program of regular treatments to maximise what we have got!)
I fell in love with reflexology from the moment I was introduced to it some 15 years ago. It is a therapy that makes perfect sense and the more you do it, the more sense it makes! Reflexology is the ‘twin’ of acupuncture and comes from an ancient art of healing. Where the Chinese insert needles in certain points of the body to treat illness, we use our fingers to press the reflex points on the hands, feet and ears, with the same results. (There are approximately 400 powerful points on the ears).
When the energy flow in our body is blocked or interrupted we don’t gain power, we lose it. Reflexology is like removing the trees, dam walls and other obstructions from a river and when all this water/tension is released the body gets on with what it knows best: it follows the path of health, rather than disease.
There are some important biological reasons for working with the feet. They are a long way away from the heart and circulation tends to stagnate there. Clients with chronically poor circulation often have tender or swollen hands and feet. What’s more, gravity pulls toxins downward. Inorganic wastes such as uric acid (gout) and calcium crystals (painful spurs) have a tendency to build up in the bottoms of our feet. A sensitive person can feel these deposits and gently break them up, which releases the energy flow to the connecting parts of the body.
Our feet are meant to ground us. They are our contact with the earth and we actually gain energy from walking barefooted on our lawn first thing in the morning. A steady foot means security and a sense of balance. When we ‘lose our footing’ it is hard to create a balanced lifestyle or harmonious relationships. When we are on the receiving end of reflexology sessions a sense of wellness returns to our soles/souls and we start to feel more connected to our inner being and the world we walk in. We become more rooted and stable.
Children benefit from reflexology as much as adults. Here I am doing three for the price of one! That means 7000 nerve endings multiplied by 6 feet equals 42000 reflex points attached to the nervous systems of three of my grandchildren. Life can’t get much better than that…
Actually it does get better because I forgot to mention that I always combine a foot massage with Young Living Essential oils. These oils contain energy, information and wisdom from the plant and tree kingdom. This energy resonates with every cell of our being and has a powerful balancing effect.
Because these oils are so pure, the secret message that our subconscious understands has remained intact. For our body it’s like listening to a beautifully composed piece of music played by an accomplished orchestra. Some oils even re-program our DNA when it has gone awry. Frankincense is particularly good and it happens to be Elijah’s favourite oil which is very apt because Elijah’s Immune system gets very confused at times, and in his short life he has suffered from an enlarged heart, juvenile arthritis, chronic anemia and severe allergic reactions. He definitely feels stronger on the days that he gets a good lathering of Frankincense.
In the above mentioned photo I am putting ‘peace and calming’ on Cohen’s feet. This is a blend of oils that calm and strengthen the nervous system. It is nature’s answer to ADHD and works a treat. I don’t know whether Cohen always needs this but it is the one oil he steadfastly chooses, even if I give him a choice of dozens of other oils. I assume he takes after Peter and is a man who knows his mind.
Bobbi who is the owner of the other set of feet in the photo has the female brain and likes to change her mind. She chooses different oils for different occasions. These oils have such a strongly powerful balancing effect that her eyeballs did a few funny flickers after sniffing a bottle of Valor, a blend that harmonises our brain waves. She went very quiet after that…. at least for 20 minutes or so. This was a welcome relief for her parents.
All of my 6 children have their own essential oil kit for everyday use as well as emergency situations. It is nothing new; they grew up with me sprinkling Bach flower remedies on plants and animals and essential oils on their cuts, bruises, bites and stings.
Here is a photo from an aromatherapy book which I used to keep handy when the kids were younger. It clearly shows the individual energy imprint of the oils with Neroli at the top, Frankincense in the middle and Juniper at the bottom. It is interesting to note that Frankincense has a deep purple colour, purple being the most powerful healing frequency. The oil of Frankincense also vibrates on the frequency of Love.
There are many surprising ways reflexology can help you and your family live a fitter happier life. It can help alleviate headaches, cold symptoms, stress, sleep disorders, back pain, chronic fatigue, digestion, asthma and bronchitis, diabetes, infertility, old injuries and more.
Reflexology allows our nervous system to calm down and function normally. Circulation is restored and oxygen reaches deep into every cell. We experience a sense of wellbeing on all levels.
No prior knowledge is required for this course. All we need is an open mind and a receptive body. Bring a blanket and pillow. This weekend will be a great mix of relaxing and learning new things. During the workshop I will teach you how to:
- Reduce anxiety and stress
Increase focus and clarity
- Encourage and restore the flow of nutrient and oxygen through the body
- Relax sore and tired muscles
- Induce overall relaxation and peace of mind
- Rebalance the hormones
- Stimulate and balance your metabolism.
- Boost your immune system.
- Use essential oils correctly
See you there! Grada
