Q: why is iodine deficiency is such a huge issue today, when it was never mentioned during my grandparents time?
A: Today we are exposed to as many toxins in one single day as our grandparents were exposed to over their entire lifetime. That means that every day, we are exposed to 8 decades worth of poisons compared the 1920’s or so.
Especially toxic to our bodies are bromide, fluoride and chloride. We are exposed to ever increasing amounts of these agents from our water supply, which is chlorinated and fluoridated, to our food supply which contains brominated bakery products, to many soft drinks with the same.
Bromine is also used as a fire retardant and found in a wide range of products such as computers, furniture, mattresses, bedding, curtains, work attire, cars and carpets.
People who are ill usually have significantly higher bromine levels to humans who are healthy.
Iodine is essential for detoxifying these toxic elements.
I have come to realise its very difficult for my clients to remain in good health without detoxifying daily with 10 iodine drops.
Q: how much iodine do I need to take?
A: In our experience we find that most people require daily iodine doses ranging from 5 to 10 colloidal iodine drops per day. Chronically ill people require more.
Q: That is 100x the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for iodine. Is that reasonable?
A: I believe the answer is yes.
The RDA was calculated from how much iodine you need to avoid goitre.
The requirements of the other organs and cells of the body aren’t factored into the number.
Not only that, the harmful effects of iodine-blocking polluters like chlorine, fluoride and bromide weren’t taken into consideration when the RDA of 150mcg was established.
The RDA for iodine is inadequate to keep cells in an anticancer state. It’s also inadequate to provide enough iodine for the rest of your body’s needs because every cell of your body needs iodine to thrive.
The RDA for iodine is also inadequate to prevent thyroid disorders.
Research has shown that 100x the RDA for iodine provides enough iodine to keep cancer at bay.
Q: If iodine is so great, why haven’t I heard about it before? Why hasn’t my doctor told me about it?
A: Iodine was considered old fashioned when penicillin and antibiotics came in vogue after WW2.
Gradually iodine faded into the background.
The fatal blow came when an influential medical paper mistakenly claimed iodine was dangerous.
During the period of 1948 and 1961 many flawed articles were published by Jan Wolff and Israel Chaikoff, who came up with fake science showing that iodine was harmful to the thyroids of rats.
This information remained unverified, yet it has influenced 3 generations of medical students.
Doctors are still taught the ‘fundamental’ law of physiology, that iodine can shut down the thyroid gland.
These disorders cannot be properly treated if iodine deficiency is present.
Q: why are so many people suffering from thyroid disorders?
A: our thyroid gland is sensitive to many environmental chemicals, such as bisphenol A (BPA), found in plastics, water bottles, and food storage containers amongst other things.
Our thyroids are especially sensitive to heavy metals like mercury, cadmium, lead and arsenic, which are found in our food chain.
Then there are many more hormone disruptors, such as antibacterial soaps and wipes, shampoos, conditioners and make-up products.
As a collective society, we need to educate ourselves on minimizing environmental toxins and encourage each other to detox with iodine supplementation! Otherwise more and more loved ones will suffer from thyroid and other hormonal disorders.
Q: Do you always have to take iodine in water, or can you put it on the skin?
A: When you take iodine in water you have the benefit that the iodine kills potential toxins and primitive cells in the stomach.
However, a lot of people find the iodine taste unpleasant and a good alternative is to put it on the inside of the arms, where the skin is soft.
Iodine can be applied directly to the breast or you can mix the iodine in your palm with some coconut oil and apply it to your breasts. That way you avoid irritation. Applying iodine directly to the breasts has been used efficiently to avoid painful breasts and to get rid of cysts.
Q: Can I take iodine while I am on thyroxine?
A: Yes, because every cells of your body needs iodine, not just your thyroid.
Thyroxin will never cure your thyroid, the same as a walking stick doesn’t cure your limp.
Your thyroid still needs iodine to function. Monitor your thyroxin levels closely with the help of your doctor when you supplement with colloidal iodine.
We have had thousands of clients who take thyroid medication as well as iodine supplementation who are very happy with the results. They see iodine as the missing link.
Q: Are there any side effects to worry about?
A: Occasionally people report that their throat feels swollen after starting on iodine. This is most likely a reaction where the thyroid swells to hoard more iodine after many years of iodine starvation. The thyroid also may swell to cleanse itself from toxins.
The thyroid filters your entire blood every 17 minutes, so it might have gone on a big spring clean.
Swelling usually goes down after a few days.
Sometimes people develop a rash where the iodine is applied. Or they get a rash all over their body.
This is most likely a detox reaction where the body attempts to get rid of bromide, fluoride and chloride, faster than the kidneys can handle.
To support your body during this healing crisis, discontinue the iodine for 48 hours and drink one litre of water for every 30kg of body weight per day.
For instance, if you weigh 60kg you need to drink at least 2 litres of filtered water per day.
Add ¼ of a teaspoon of Himalayan Salt per litre of water.
The salt will help your kidneys flush out the toxins and after a couple of days you’re ready to start supplementing with iodine again, while you continue to drink the right amount of water.
Q: How long should I supplement with iodine for? When can I stop taking iodine?
A: I can’t encourage you enough to take 10 iodine drops daily for the rest of your life. Get well, be vibrantly healthy, feel energized, stay on top of the world and increase your brain power rather than weaken it.
The fact is that ageing depletes iodine from your body, along with our drinking water, diet, exposure to chemicals, pregnancies, smoking, alcohol, and our daily stresses.
The greatest energy booster in the world is colloidal iodine and that is why I believe supplementing with iodine is a must when it comes to your overall health.
