Our client Dave was told his blood tests were excellent.

Everything, on paper, said he was healthy.

Yet his body told a very different story.

He felt wired but exhausted, inflamed yet depleted, restless at night and foggy during the day, as if his system was permanently braced for impact.

What surprised him most wasn’t how bad he felt, but how normal it had become.

He had no diagnosis, nothing dramatic to point to, and no clear explanation for why his body seemed to be ageing faster than it should.

When we worked together, we didn’t chase symptoms.

We had a look under the bonnet of the car and discovered that his cell membranes were too permeable.

There is a word for that.

It is called Catabolic, meaning that the body is breaking down day and night and doesn’t have the opportunity to recover from daily wear and tear.

He had to take a few supplements to help his cell membranes function properly, so they could close at night and allow David to sleep and rest deeply.

As his system settled, the inflammation did too.

Sleep deepened, digestion stabilised, energy returned without stimulants, and for the first time in years, his body stopped working so hard just to feel “normal.”

He said quietly, “I didn’t realise how hard my body had been working just to get through the day.”

If that resonates with you, it’s because your body may be doing the same thing.

Over the years, I’ve watched inflammation become one of the most misunderstood words in modern health.

It’s blamed for everything, feared by many, and aggressively attacked with diets, detoxes, supplements, and rigid regimes, yet paradoxically, the harder people try to control inflammation, the more inflamed their systems often become.

But did you know that acute inflammation itself is not the enemy?

Chronic, unresolved inflammation is.

And there is a profound difference between the two.

Inflammation is your body’s repair signal.

It’s your immune system mobilising resources, increasing blood flow, activating healing pathways, and responding to perceived threats, whether those threats are physical injury, infection, toxicity, emotional shock, or long-standing stress.

Without inflammation, wounds would not heal, infections would not clear, damaged tissue would not regenerate, and survival itself would not be possible.

The problem begins when the signal never gets switched off.

When inflammation becomes low-grade and persistent, it quietly damages mitochondria, shortens telomeres, disrupts hormones, increases oxidative stress, and accelerates ageing from the inside out.

A process now referred to as inflammaging.

And here’s the part most people miss: Most chronic inflammation is not caused solely by food.

It’s caused by unresolved danger signals the body is still responding to.

That’s why you can eat “perfectly” and still feel inflamed, puffy, painful, foggy, or older than your years.

Your body isn’t faulty; it’s still protecting you.

I see this again and again.

A woman in her late sixties once came to see me, believing her joint pain was simply normal ageing.

But her pain flared with stress, worsened with poor sleep, and intensified during emotional strain, a classic sign of an immune system still on guard.

Once her nervous system settled, minerals were replenished, and her body was supported back into repair mode, the stiffness softened, and the pain loosened its grip.

She said, “I thought my body was finished. I didn’t realise it was just exhausted.”

Another woman, in her early fifties, believed menopause had suddenly aged her overnight.

She had brain fog, joint pain, fatigue, and a body that no longer felt like home.

But her inflammatory stress had been present long before her hormones shifted.

Menopause didn’t cause her symptoms.

It simply removed the buffering that had been holding inflammation at bay.

As her system regained safety, mineral balance, and proper drainage, her sleep improved, cognition sharpened, pain reduced, and her body began ageing with her again, not against her.

She said, “For the first time, I feel like my body is on my side.”

If you feel older than your years, inflamed despite doing “everything right,” or tired of managing symptoms instead of changing your trajectory, this is not your fault.

Your body is asking for understanding rather than forcing the pain away.

In my clinical experience, the most common drivers of chronic inflammation are not willpower failures, but unresolved emotional shock, chronic nervous system activation, mineral depletion, impaired drainage, blocked bile flow, environmental overload, and immune systems that were suppressed rather than supported to complete their work.

When your digestion is restored, inflammation naturally stands down.

When minerals are replenished, repair resumes.

When waste can be eliminated from the body, because your bile is flowing, the system no longer needs to remain inflamed to protect you.

At Purple House, this is the work we do every day: helping your body return to intelligence, improve your digestion, calm your nervous system, and reset your safety mechanism, so inflammation can complete its role and ageing can slow naturally.
