Have you ever noticed how, just when you’re about to take a giant leap in the right direction, the Universe begins to rattle your cage?
Well, that’s exactly what happened to us the week before the ‘grand opening’ of our Purple House Kitchen.
After months of dreaming, planning, painting, scrubbing, tasting, testing, and creating… the finish line was in sight.
The food van (aka our kitchen) was humming, and everything was coming together nicely …
And then… the ceiling started falling in.
There I was, relaxing with a cup of tea in the main room, soaking in the quiet before the storm, when I looked up and noticed the ceiling in my main kitchen was sagging.
Not just a little droop … but ominously bulging downward.
Now, this house has been good to us for a long time.
It’s held us, our family, our dreams, and thousands of clients over the years.
We did have a roof leak years ago — maybe this was some delayed protest?
I couldn’t help but laugh.
Of course, the ceiling would choose this week to start misbehaving!
Every day leading up to the opening, it drooped lower… and lower… until finally, the day before the big reveal, Caleb (who had returned from Canada to give us much needed moral support) screwed it back into place and patched the plaster.
The ceiling is now solid and secure, but it still wears the scars of its little rebellion, which we will hide under a fresh coat of paint one day.
And isn’t that just so symbolic?
That sagging ceiling got me thinking: perhaps it was mirroring my own internal happiness ceiling?
Did you know that we really do have a happiness ceiling?
Some people have a very low tolerance to happiness, while others are naturally gifted in the happiness department…..
Thankfully we can learn how to manoeuvre our happiness thermostat up or down, which is something I teach my clients but had forgotten to do myself.
Pete and I had been so focused on ticking off our to-do lists, that I’d slipped into survival mode and started living in the “outer world,” running on adrenaline instead of alignment.
And sure enough, my joy had started to sag like my kitchen ceiling.
Thankfully, the opening day went off without a hitch!
People kept coming and going, and everyone had an aura of happiness and contentment.
Here’s what’s been flying out of the kitchen:
✔️ House-made cakes and biscuits (yes, they are almost guilt-free)
✔️ Wild fermented drinks that love your gut
✔️ Freshly Baked Sourdough bread
✔️ Main meals that are nutrient-dense and soul-satisfying
✔️ Organic coffee and herbal teas served with love
✔️ And everything is made with care from scratch without microwaves or nasty ingredients so its gut & soul friendly.
