Have you ever pinched yourself at your ‘good luck’?
I have.
Yes, I survived being hit by a truck and many other excruciating experiences … but today, when I look out over our property hidden in the Forth Valley, I still pinch myself.
Because at one stage, all of this was just a dream … and not even a sensible one.
It was one of those big, slightly delusional dreams that don’t make sense on paper, but make perfect sense to the soul.
Have you ever had one of those dreams?
I arrived in Tasmania from near Amsterdam in 1981, at the ripe old age of 19, already carrying a vision inside me of raising a large, healthy, resilient family close to nature, away from the noise and trappings of modern life.
Nine months later, I was holding my first baby in my arms.
At the same time, Pete and I had just sold our first renovated home… and we had nowhere to go, no money, and a newborn baby.
And still… the dream did not leave me.
So instead of shrinking our vision, we expanded our lives.
We travelled, moved, returned, and came back to Tasmania in time to welcome our second child.
Eventually, in 1988, after Pete became a registered nurse and midwife, we moved to a rugged, hilly, 110-acre farm at the end of a dead-end road in the far northeast of Tasmania, a place the locals called God’s own country.
And there, for ten years, we lived our dream.
Six children.
A small weatherboard house in the middle of nowhere.
Filled with noise, laughter, and resilience.
Pete working shift work at the Scottsdale hospital … and me holding the home front together with children, animals, gardens, weather, land, and a life that was raw, real, and deeply alive.
Eventually, after doubling the house and turning the gardens into a private paradise, life called us closer to education and opportunity, and in 1999, we moved to Forth … leaving behind our forest and gardens, but not our vision.
We could not wait to start from scratch again.
And so we did.
In our very first year here, with very little money and a lot of determination, we planted trees, created knot gardens and mazes, and built one of the largest medicinal herb gardens in the district.
We grew over 50 varieties of heirloom garlic and even hosted TAFE herbal students who came to learn from what we had created.
And then … life changed in an instant.
In 2006, I was hit by a truck.
Everything stopped.
The gardens were left.
The mazes grew wild.
Rabbits took over and ate half of the young trees.
The herb garden faded.
And the house… became still.
Life shrank down to surviving one day at a time.
For many years, I could not sit or move comfortably, or tend the land the way I once had.
But dreams; especially the real ones … do not disappear.
- They wait.
- They reshape.
- They find a way to resurface.
About ten years ago, Ben, a loyal friend, stepped in and began lovingly restoring the land, bringing the mazes back to life, tending the trees, and creating two beautiful labyrinths.

In many ways, he picked up where we had left off … and carried the dream forward.
Around that same time, in 2015, Joh, our eldest son, returned to Forth and bought the local veterinary clinic, which has now grown into the Forth Valley Veterinary Clinic and Wildlife Centre.
Caleb, our third child, founded Love Your Guts, which grew into a thriving business across Australia.
During that time, he and Rosie built their tiny home and then headed to Canada for three years to pursue another chapter of their lives. (Bryce Langston of Living Big In A Tiny House has just featured their tiny home and our property in a recent episode on his channel see the link below to watch.)
In 2018, Eve (our number 4) took over Alchemy Café from us and then stepped into the café at Spreyton Ciders, nurturing it from a toddler into a thriving adult business.
Since then, she has stepped in to lead Love Your Guts forward, while also taking over Lauds Plant-Based Foods, continuing her path of leadership, creativity, and innovation.
Mieke became a talented photographer with a beautiful eye for capturing real life, and together with her partner Paul, she is homeschooling their two daughters in that same spirit of creativity and freedom, while also supporting Paul’s basketball Academy.
And then there is Tom.
Tom changed my life in a completely different way.
He was severely dyslexic as a child, and in 1999, I took him to one of the very first kinesiology clinics in Hobart, where we witnessed a transformation that left me absolutely gobsmacked.
It opened a doorway for me … a portal into understanding the body, the mind, and the deeper intelligence within us.
I began studying kinesiology not long after, and over the years that path evolved into what is now the Miracle Method … a way of working that goes beyond surface-level change and into the deeper patterns of the body and mind, allowing for rapid, profound, and lasting shifts.

It has transformed thousands of lives, and today I teach and mentor the Miracle Method so others can access this work.
And Tom…
Tom grew into a brilliant, capable, deeply creative man.
Today, he and his partner Lucie live with their three children in a luxury tiny-home bus that Tom built from scratch while Caleb was building his tiny house.
They have been travelling Australia, homeschooling their children, and living their dream.
Arthit, one of our sons-in-law, quietly committed himself to years of study and is now a medical doctor, adding yet another layer of care and contribution to our family story.
All our children can cook, build, grow food, design beautiful spaces, heal, create, sew, knit, crochet, think for themselves, run businesses, and create meaningful lives for their own children.
And I realise…
That “delusional” dream I had as a 19-year-old girl has come true … in more ways than I could ever have imagined.
Meanwhile, here on the land, life has come full circle.
The Purple House Wellness Centre continues to support and transform lives.
The Purple House Kitchen, run by Lisanne, is thriving and filled with nourishing, real food made with integrity and love.
Without Lisanne, there would be no café … and seeing her prep meals is like watching a magician… mesmerising!
Our Airbnb stays welcome guests from all over, offering a place to rest, breathe, and reconnect.
And Caleb and Rosie’s tiny house, Fika, was recently featured by Bryce Langston, who described this place as “a little bit of paradise.”
I invite you to make yourself a cuppa, sit down, and watch the entire episode here.
It might just activate your own dreams.
Along the way, I followed a quiet ambition of my own.
I wrote three books filled with stories to inspire others and became a three-time Amazon bestselling author. (Click here to obtain your copies)
And now, later in life, I am pursuing a PhD in psychosomatic medicine, continuing my journey to understand the profound connection among the mind, the body, and the healing process.
Because growth … never really ends.
And perhaps that is the essence of all of this.
- It is not about perfection.
- It is not about certainty.
- And it is not about doing better than those who came before us.
It is about a willingness to keep saying YES to something bigger than what you can currently see; and about never giving up on yourself.
My motto has always been: If it’s to be, it’s up to me!
And I encourage you to copy it from me.
You can book a wonderful holiday here and enjoy a taste of paradise.
