After the festive season, many people quietly realise something feels off.
Not dramatically wrong.
Just … not right.
Bloated. Heavy. Foggy.
Cravings that don’t make sense.
Digestion that feels unpredictable.
Energy that hasn’t quite come back online.
And then comes the question most people ask at this point: “Where do I even start to get my gut back on track?”
If that’s you, you’re not alone.
And you’re not failing at health.
You’re simply missing something foundational.
This Is Where It All Started for Me

For me, fermenting didn’t begin as a health trend or a hobby.
It was just part of life.
I grew up in my mum’s kitchen, where homemade sauerkraut appeared regularly on the table, kombucha became a staple after helping my sister recover from shingles, and yoghurt was served for dessert most nights.
Being Dutch, cheese also played a starring role.
At the time, I didn’t know there was anything special about this.
It was just food.
It wasn’t until later, when I began working deeply in gut health and natural medicine, that I realised how rare this connection to traditional food had become.
When I talk about fermenting now, people often look at me blankly or recoil slightly.
- “Isn’t fermented food rotten?”
- “Isn’t it dangerous?”
- “Isn’t it gross?”
I usually smile.
Because fermentation is simply the transformative action of microorganisms.
It’s controlled, intelligent change.
And once you understand it, you realise fermentation is already part of many foods people love every day.
- Chocolate.
- Yoghurt.
- Cheese.
- Coffee.
- Tabasco sauce.
- Sourdough.
Fermentation isn’t strange.
It’s ancient.
Fermenting Is Digestion That Happens on the Outside.
Here’s the part most people don’t realise.
The same process that transforms food in a fermenting jar is happening inside your body every time you eat.
Your gut microbes take food and turn it into fuel, signals, hormones, neurotransmitters, immune messengers, and building blocks for repair.
Fermenting food is essentially digestion that happens outside the body first, making nutrients more available, more absorbable, and gentler on your system.
For thousands of years, fermentation was essential for survival.
It preserved food, enhanced nutrition, and protected communities long before refrigeration or supplements existed.
But as technology advanced, these practices were quietly lost.
And with them, much of our collective gut resilience.
Highly processed, pasteurised, shelf-stable foods replaced living foods.
Our microbiome diversity declined.
Digestive issues became normalised.
Immune systems weakened.
Inflammation rose.
What we are seeing now is not a trend.
It’s a return.
A fermentation revival is brewing, and our guts are asking for it.

Why Your Gut Matters More Than You Think
Your gut is not just about digestion.
Over 80 percent of your immune system lives there.
Around 90 percent of serotonin is produced there.
Your gut sends far more signals to your brain than your brain sends to your gut.
When the gut is supported, everything else stabilises.
- Mood improves.
- Energy lifts.
- Brain fog clears.
- Inflammation settles.
- Cravings calm.
- Sleep deepens.
This is why gut health is inseparable from mental health, immune strength, hormonal balance, and longevity.
And it’s why fermented foods are not optional extras.
They are foundational.
Fearless Fermenting
This is why we created Fearless Fermenting.

But as a practical, empowering way to reconnect with food that actually supports your body.
This workshop is for people who feel overwhelmed by conflicting health advice and want something simple, effective, and grounded.
It’s for people who want to understand what they’re doing, not just follow recipes blindly.
And it’s for anyone who wants to feel confident working with living food in their own kitchen.
