Today’s story is one of the most meaningful lessons I’ve received this year, and although it involves a midnight toilet walk and a scorpion hiding between my toes, the real message is about guilt, boundaries, and how the Universe speaks when we’re not listening to ourselves.
The Midnight Scorpion Lesson
One afternoon, I found a scorpion on my kitchen floor and instinctively killed it.
Even though it was the sensible thing to do, I felt a pang of guilt.
I carried that guilt quietly … and the Universe noticed.
That night, while walking to the toilet in the dark, another scorpion appeared out of nowhere and sank its stinger into the soft skin between my toes.
It hurt, but what fascinated me even more was what happened the next morning.
A third scorpion showed up in exactly the same spot, almost as if it were making eye contact with my conscience.
This time, I stepped aside and let Pete handle it.
He dispatched it calmly, without guilt, hesitation, or self-reproach, and of course, he had no after-effects.
Meanwhile, my toe throbbed for days, and the itch still resurfaces at odd moments, long after the venom has gone.
That was when the message clicked into place.
The Real Sting Was Never the Venom. It Was the Guilt
The Universe wasn’t punishing me with a bite.
it was reflecting my own emotional conflict to me.
When I killed the first scorpion, I acted from necessity, but my energy was tangled in remorse.
My nervous system registered the guilt more powerfully than it registered the action itself, and the bite simply brought that inner tension to the surface so it could be released.
Pete, on the other hand, acted with neutrality.
His body stayed neutral.
His energy stayed clean.
No guilt.
No karma.
No somatic echo.
The contrast couldn’t have been clearer: It’s not the action that binds us. It’s the emotion we attach to it.
Many of us do this daily, we punish ourselves long after the moment has passed.
The Scorpion’s Medicine: Boundaries Without Apology
Spiritually, scorpions symbolise boundaries, instinct, sovereignty, and the kind of feminine power that protects rather than explains.
Their medicine teaches us that defending our space is not aggression, and taking decisive action is not cruelty.
The Universe was asking me to strengthen something I had softened too far: my right to protect my home, my body, my energy, without guilt.
The bite wasn’t a punishment.
It was an initiation.
A reminder that:
- You are allowed to take action
- You are allowed to set boundaries
- You are allowed to protect your space
- You don’t need guilt to justify doing what is necessary
Most importantly:
Your heart doesn’t need to suffer for you to stay aligned with your truth.
The Christmas Message
The scorpion taught me that guilt is often far more toxic than the event we’re feeling guilty about.
When our heart is soft and we act against ourselves, even in tiny ways, our body absorbs the tension.
The Universe brings these moments forward not to hurt us, but to help us clear old emotional patterns so we stop carrying weight that was never ours.
So as Christmas approaches and old emotions tend to surface, remember this gentle truth:
- You’re allowed to protect yourself.
- You’re allowed to choose peace.
- You’re allowed to release guilt that doesn’t belong in your body.
The sting was only the doorway.
The lesson was the liberation.
