Gallbladder problems?

- What is your gallbladder?

- But what’s bile?
Bile is a greenish-yellow digestive fluid produced by your liver.
You make about 700 ml per day.

Here’s how it works:
Your liver produces bile, and your gallbladder’s job is to store and concentrate it into a very caustic substance.
When you eat a meal – especially one with fats – your stomach begins to release small amounts of very acidic food into your small intestine.
Your gallbladder gets the signal, contracts, and releases a concentrated burst of highly alkaline bile into your small intestine.
This gush of alkaline bile is critical for two reasons:
- It emulsifies fats,
- And it neutralizes the extremely acidic stomach contents (which can have a pH of 1–2).
