It’s very common in the US and Canada, the UK, and Australia to be deficient in magnesium.
Millions are suffering from magnesium deficiency.
“But wait a minute, my doctor checked my magnesium level and said it was normal”, I hear you say.
Here is the thing.
At any given time in your body, only 1% of your available magnesium is present in your blood is in the serum.
And your body regulates that amount very, very tightly because magnesium facilitates over 400 biochemical reactions in your body every single minute of every single day.
It’s vitally important for life.
It is an essential nutrient.
It’s an essential mineral your body can’t make.
If your serum level drops your body immediately pulls magnesium from your bones and organs out into the bloodstream to normalize that level.
There’s really not a good way to check your magnesium levels with a medical test.
So let’s talk about some signs and symptoms that might give you the heads up that you are low in magnesium.
1. You have very low energy.
Magnesium is needed to create energy and vitality inside each cell.
2. Fast heart rate or tachycardia.
Calcium tends to make your heart contract and magnesium makes it relaxed.
If you don’t have enough magnesium in your body, your heart can’t relax properly.
3. Numbness and tingling in fingers or toes.
(This can also mean Vitamin B deficiency)
4. Muscle cramps or muscle twitches.
A good magnesium supplement can relieve those cramps.
5. Constipation.
Magnesium will help with constipation like no other element really will.
If you’re taking a magnesium supplement — which is very safe, by the way — you’ll know you’ve had too much if you experience diarrhea.
That’s your body’s gentle nudge to dial it back a bit.
Just reduce the dose slightly, and you’ve found your sweet spot.
6. Insomnia.
If you take anywhere from 400 to 800 milligrams of magnesium at bedtime, you’ll drift off into a more restful sleep and you’ll stay asleep through the night for more minutes or more hours and get a more restful night’s sleep.
7. Osteoporosis or osteopenia,(osteopenia is just the beginning weakness of bone and you haven’t progressed to osteoporosis yet which is very brittle bones.)
Your body has to have magnesium and calcium in the proper ratio in order to store calcium properly in the bones.
And so if you are very low in magnesium, you may not be putting away and rebuilding bone properly.
You also need to supplement with Boron, which will tell your magnesium and calcium to go into the right places.
8. High blood pressure.
Now often high blood pressure is just high blood pressure, but sometimes it’s low magnesium and even if you are taking a blood pressure medication I still suggest taking 400 800 milligrams of magnesium at bedtime.
9. Magnesium is very heart-healthy.
It’s estimated that over half of the people who come to the emergency room with an acute heart attack are magnesium deficient and that seems to be very strongly correlated with heart disease.
10. Severe morning sickness or postpartum depression.
If you know someone who’s pregnant and just has debilitating morning sickness, there are a couple of studies that show that a magnesium supplement makes that much less severe.
And so it looks like severe morning sickness may be due in part to a magnesium deficiency.
There are many more symptoms, such as forgetfulness, loss of memory, depression (postpartum depression) and anxiety, post natal depression, and many more.
If you recognize these symptoms, you need to supplement with magnesium.
We simply don’t get enough from our foods today, and we only recommend the types of magnesium we stock at our facilities.
You can waste a lot of money on magnesium supplements that are just ‘fillers’ and don’t create the change in your body that you have been waiting for.
